James 1:22-25

But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:

For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.

But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

deceive
[dih-seev]
1.to mislead by a false appearance or statement; delude:

I don’t know about you, but I don’t like it when someone deceives me. After reading these verses I realized the person who deceives me the most is myself. I listen to the messages, I read the Bible, I hear the word, but most of the time I don’t do it, most of the time it’s me deceiving myself. I need to stop just hearing and I need to start doing. God will bless those that are doers and not hearers only.

Proverbs 11:2

“When pride cometh, then cometh shame:but with the lowly is wisdom:”

What I got from this verse was don’t let pride get in the way,and to stay humble. If your constantly being prideful and putting other people down to feel better about yourself, in the end your going to end up actually feeling worse for what you did. Then it says with the lowly is wisdom, being humble about what you do or who you are will benefit you way more than being prideful ever will.

Proverbs 5:7 “Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth .”
In this chapter of the Bible “wisdom”is talking .In our lives wisdom is talking through our parents, our pastor ,our youth leaders and all others that are in authority over us.
No matter what, wisdom will be talking it’s just a matter of hearing and heeding that wisdom.

The Simple Prayer

Have you ever tried to pray, but you didn’t have the words to say? Maybe its simply that you just don’t know what to say, or that a situation is out of your control causing you to be at a loss for words. We have all been there a time or two, so today I would like to share some things with you that God has taught me about the simple prayer. First thing to remember is that you don’t need to “wow” God with what you say. Sometimes, we think that the more big and holy words we use the better.

Matthew 6:7- but when you pray use not vain repetitions , as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

That kind of prayer might impress people but not God. Second, recognize that God is not judging your prayer, and dismissing prayers that aren’t good enough. If you are sincere no prayer is a bad prayer, long or short. The power of prayer is not in how great the prayer was, but rather the one who hears it.

James 5:16- . . . the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

When you pray keep it simple. Just be honest with God. Pour your heart out to him. Lastly, understand that He is your heavenly Father and he already knows what is on your mind. Sometimes just saying “Father help” is enough.

Psalm 68:5-6 A Father of the Fatherless , and a judge of he widows, is God in His holy habitation. God setteth the solitary in families: He bringeth out those which are bound with chains; but the rebellious dwell in a dry land.

2 Corinthians 8:6- but to us there is but one God, the athe of whom are all things, and we in Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things an we by Him.

Galations 4:6 and because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the spirit of His Son into your hearts , crying, Abba, Father.

Time Has Come!
Hosea 10:12
12 Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your
fallow ground: for it is time to seek the Lord, till he come and rain
righteousness upon you.
13 Ye have plowed wickedness, ye have reaped iniquity; ye have eaten
the fruit of lies: because thou didst trust in thy way, in the
multitude of thy mighty men.
The word Hosea means salvation
Throughout the book, Hosea pleads with the people of Israel and
warning them to return to God and telling them of their imminent doom
if they didn’t.
Today we are going to look at 3 choices we need to make today

I. Destroy Complacency
“Break up your fallow ground” — people tell stories, and even we have
seen people that just “let themselves” go in married life…because
they get complacent, and think they have already done enough…just
like us as Christians, “Oh I invited this person to church, I don’t
have to read my Bible today.. I walked an elderly lady across the
street, I don’t need to pray today..I’ve gotten saved, Jesus I’ve done
enough for you!” The One who bore a cross on His way to His own death,
as He was spit upon, beaten, and mocked, and gave His life for you and
I so that we could even have saving grace! And we think by saying a 2
second prayer for our meal that that’s our reasonable service to the
King of Kings! How dare we? There is no room for complacency in our
walk with God!
II. Desire Christ
Look around the world at the way this culture has changed from 50…
even 20 years ago! Better yet look at the city around you! This world
is on its way to Hell each and every day just getting closer and
closer and what are we doing about it? How many people do we walk by
not even thinking twice to ask them if they knew where they were
headed when they left this earth? If we desire Christ, we also desire
to follow His commands. One of those commands were to preach the
gospel to every creature! Don’t be selfish with your salvation! How
many lost family members do we have that know we are saved? How many
have we talked to about the Lord, I’m guilty too! Our first priority
must be Him before anything else!

III. Decide to Chastise
Chastise means to rebuke
Rebuke your flesh
Verse 13-Ye have plowed wickedness, ye have reaped iniquity; ye have
eaten the fruit of lies: because thou didst trust in thy way, in the
multitude of thy mighty men.
Back on my high school football team, me and teammate of mine used to
ask each other before every game, “What are you gonna do when the
lights are on? … And the other person would answer, “Perform!” And
we would go back and forth until we were screaming our heads off!…
Can I tell you something? The lights ARE on! No one can make you serve
Christ! You have to want it! Your flesh doesn’t want to serve God! I
heard an evangelist say, “If you want to take a stand for God, you
better be prepared to stand alone!” It’s easier to not give out a
tract than to give in to your sinful fleshly pleasures! But I bet it
would have been easier for Christ not to go to the cross and just wipe
out everyone and start over! But you know He laid His LIFE down for
you and for me! These people trusted in themselves to get them through
life and not the Heavenly Host! We need to Wake up and get serious
about the Lord! The time has come! The time is now!

Fighting. We all might know a thing or two about this subject ; I know I do. Although, fighting isn’t always just a physical altercation or a disagreement with someone, but it could be a fight with many different things.

•There is fights between flesh and spirit

Romans 8:8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
Galatians 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
It’s so easy yet we make it so hard . Why do we do that? Because we are human! That’s why we need to walk in the spirit ! As Christians we set ourselves up way too much! Putting things that will only feed our flesh in front of us then wondering why we’re still struggling. Yes it might feel impossible but ask God for the strength because we don’t have it in us ! Don’t think you can fight sin ! You need God on your side ! Whichever side you feed more is the side that will conquer the other , feed your spirit !
Which takes us right into the next example:

•Fighting sin and temptation

James 1:14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
Don’t think you’re the only one ! The devil will tempt you all the days of your life , that will not change. Although, your walk and your spirit can change and get stronger , and that is what can change the outcome of when you’re tempted. Don’t let temptation trick you into thinking you will never be able to escape sin, with God all things are possible .

•There is a fight between what God wants to do in your life and what you think is going to be done in your life
Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart;and lean not unto thine own understanding .In all thy ways acknowledge him,and he shall direct thy paths.

Are you fighting the change God wants to do in your life? Are you scared of losing certain things ?

Mark 8:36 For what shall it profit a man,if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

Yes , with the Christain life comes many sacrifices, you will have to give up so many things, but in return comes so many blessings . God gave his only son , who paid the price for us so we could go to Heaven, and yet were debating on things we know are wrong . Why? Because we’re human and we are sinners . Then God shows us his amazing grace and love, and it makes it all worth fighting for. It brings strength for today and hope for tomorrow . Listen, I don’t know what you’re going through, but I can tell you the only way you can fight what you’re going through, and that’s on your knees praying to God . That’s the real fight, where it really matters, that’s when the real strength comes in. Just stop trying to fight your battles and give it to God! It took many long nights, of nothing but tears to realize that I do not have the power to change one thing on my own. So don’t put yourself through that, the same way you would vent and pour out your tears to your best friend, do that to God . I promise you He loves and cares for you way more than your friend could ever have the power to and He can change anything . He is God.

(Proverbs 3:5-7) Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.

This verse really hits home for me, I struggle with this quite often. I am the kind of person that likes to be in control, and do it my way. I feel God is working on that part of my life. We need to realize that God is in control. We are here to praise and glorify him, not to uplift ourselves. I feel that we all want to live happy and successful lives, but we cannot do that without God. Riches and popularity will not make you happy. There will always be something missing unless you have Jesus. Jesus is the key to a happy and successful life. Trust in Him and I can guarantee you will live one of the happiest lives anyone on this earth could possibly live.
